The Gracie Barra Andalucia schools are instructed by black belts Edson “Sururu” Jorge, and Marcelo “Uirapuru” Azevedo.
Edson “Sururu” Jorge
Edson received his black-belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) under Vinicius “Draculino” Magalhaes, the internationally known head of the Gracie-Barra Belo-Horizonte acadamy. The Gracie-Barra association is considered as one of the top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu organizations in the world, whose members are nearly always the winners of top competitions such as the Worlds and the Pan Americans.
Edson himself is a three-time champion of the Brazilian Team competition (1999, 2000 and 2002), a former champion of the Inner-state Submission Wrestling tournament (2002), and won the Bronze Medal at the 2002 World Championships.
He’s extremely popular with the students, as he’s known for his friendly but professional work ethic, attention to detail, focus on proper technique, and individual attention given to all the students.
Capoeira. Edson’s martial arts career began as a professional Capoeira instruction, a passion for which he maintains even today. Capoeira is a traditional Brazilian cultural martial art integrating fighting, music and dance. Edson presently teaches both group and private classes in Capoeira.
Vale Tudo. Edson is also one of the top lightweight vale tudo fighters in the world, and presently has an undefeated record of 4 wins and no losses. His most recent win was against Olavo Belo at this year’s Portugal Vale Tudo event, and his most notable win was the championship of the Vitoria Extreme 2 Grand Prix.
Private Instruction. Edson is available for both group and private classes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Submission Wrestling, Capoeira, Personal Defense, and Personal Training.
